Adrenal development and endocrine programming across the life course
December 2026 - 2030
Background
Primary hypertension and cardiometabolic disease are major global health challenges, but current prevention remains limited.
Aims and Study Design
We will investigate whether the adrenal glands provide a measurable link between endocrine development, adult organ morphology and later disease risk using proteomics from our minipuberty cohort, a clinical follow up in adult life of children participating in our COPUSII cohort, and MR adrenal volume from the UK biobank.
Research team and funding
The project is a collaboration between EDMaRC (PI prof. Anders Juul) and the group of Dr. Alexander Busch (co-PI) at Universitätsklinikum Munster, Germany. The project is funded by a Novo-Nordisk non-diabetic endocrinology grant of 9.2 mio DKK over 4 years.
